Life gets overwhelming. We mess up. Our past choices seem to weigh us down. We feel stuck. Do you ever wish you could start over and begin again? Have you ever thought about moving out of state or finding a cabin in the woods where no one knows you, and you can be a whole new person, and live a whole new life? If you feel this way, you are not alone.

The Miracle Question

As January draws to an end, what do you wish was different in your life? If you were to wake up tomorrow and your struggles/problems were gone what would be different? How would you know things were better? If your problem just disappeared, what would you be doing instead? How would you feel if things were different? Write the answers to these questions down. Really identify what you want to change.

Now. What are some tangible steps you can take to start making parts of that hope a reality? Maybe there are small changes or choices you can make that will get you closer to creating a better future. Write this plan down.

Instead of just hoping and wishing, you can actively take small steps toward creating the life you want. Running away from or ignoring your problems will not make your struggles disappear. Only you can take responsibility and take action towards what you want to change in your life.

Things We Cannot Control

There are many things in life that you can not control, and these can sometimes feel insurmountable. It is important to get support during these times. Reach out to trusted people in your life, talk to a counselor, and ask for help! Accepting and processing the events and people you can’t change can be so important to getting unstuck in your journey. Once you acknowledge that there are things you can not control, you can start changing the things you can control.

Things We Can Control

It takes bravery to make changes in your life. We get comfortable dealing with what we are used to. Sometimes, even if we aren’t happy, it feels safer to just keep doing everything the same as we always have. It can feel scary to make changes, even for the better. But you do have some power. You can make small changes that will make your life better. You just have to identify what you can and want to change and do something about it. Making small changes can feel like a new beginning.

Support

Counseling is a great way to start this process of identifying what you want to change and how to start taking action in a safe and healthy way. Get the support you need!
