denver anxiety counselorsThe National Institute of Mental Health’s research results determined that anxiety disorders are the number one mental health problem among women in the United States and for men, it is second to the problem of alcohol and drug abuse.  Nearly 50 million (17%) people in the U.S. have suffered from panic attacks, phobias, or other anxiety disorders in the past year.  Twenty five percent of the adult population will suffer from anxiety disorders at some point in their life.  There are numerous underlying causes for a person developing an anxiety disorder but stress seems to be a main reason for panic attacks, phobias, and obsessions.

If you are struggling with anxiety disorder, our counselors that work with anxiety will provide a treatment plan that will 1) give you specific skills that you can use to overcome problems with panic, anxiety, and phobias, and 2) provide you with steps to master the life skills going forward so that you are ready to face life’s stresses.  The treatment will include relaxation exercises, coping skills for anxiety attacks, exposure, identifying and expressing feelings, learning to be assertive, increasing self-esteem, nutrition, exercise, and potentially medication recommendations.  The more skills and strategies you incorporate into your life to face anxiety, the more confident your healing will be.
